A festive Fourth

Today, I am an American. I woke up this morning, found the only short-sleeved shirt in my wardrobe that combines the colors red, white and blue (a freebie from our Hawaiian vacation, as it turns out, with the words "Big Kahuna" all over it), put on a baseball cap with the Stars & Stripes on it, got in the car and drove two and a half hours to a small-town parade (inland, where the wildfires are still en fuego). After the return trip, I took a nap, ate a hamburger, talked to the neighbors, and then went to see fireworks.

There's no ground fog here where we live, but the marine layer is pretty low over the water where the fireworks display takes place. So we basically spent twenty minutes staring at a very noisy color-tinted cloud that occasionally threw off some sparks. At least it wasn't as cold as it's been in past years.
