My new addiction

I am addicted to iTunes. Yeah, I know: I'm about five years late to this party. Well, better late than never I guess. Here's how it all began...

One of my co-workers has been dragging his iPod to work. Other people have done this in the past, but he's the first person I've really had an in-depth conversation with about it. Okay, no biggie.

Well, then we coughed up the money to see Cher when we're in Vegas. Ticketmaster, in exchange for all of its varied exorbitant fees, gives you two free iTunes downloads. I've gotten free downloads before, but I've always either ignored them or given them to someone. This time, though (based on the conversation with my co-worker), I thought: 'What the heck. I'll try it.'

I was smart enough at the beginning of this not to give Apple my credit card info. I figured it would be WAY too tempting to get music this easily, and I didn't want to explain to a bankruptcy judge my need for just one more Flock of Seagulls tune. Boy, was that a good decision. I have redeemed FOUR $25 iTunes cards in the past seven days!

I spent last weekend on a hunt for songs I've always wanted but never wanted to buy a whole CD to get. Then I discovered that I can also download "South Park" episodes. From the current season! And a whole season costs less than buying the DVD at Borders! Today, I've been uploading more than downloading--importing CD's into iTunes so I can create playlists.

I was going to go into the office, but I didn't make it off the couch until almost 5 p.m. The first step to recovery is admitting that I've got a problem, right?

I know what you mean. I spend about 30 bucks on iTunes a week or so ago expanding my Van Morrison library.

But I swear I can stop whenever I want.

PS-- Don't tell my wife.
